About the author: Jay Fickle, DO
Jay Fickle, DO is a U.S.-trained physician with a strong academic and clinical foundation in psychiatry, psychopharmacology, and behavioral health. After completing his medical degree in 2020, he has remained focused on the science and human impact of mental illness—particularly where emerging treatments intersect with clinical need.
After attending this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify the roles and responsibilities of interdisciplinary team members and apply collaborative communication tools to support coordinated care.
- Demonstrate competency in evaluating and managing common physical and emotional symptoms in pediatric patients, using validated assessment tools and both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions.
- Navigate ethical, legal, and cultural considerations in pediatric palliative care, including informed consent, cultural humility, spiritual sensitivity, and advance care planning.
- Describe structured communication techniques to facilitate family conversations, conduct goals-of-care discussions, and manage complex or emotionally charged situations with compassion and clarity.
Course Completion Requirements: This course is in a written format, and your certificate will be available for download immediately after successful completion of the post-test and evaluation. A score of 80% or greater is required to pass, and you may re-take the post-test if needed up to 3 times.
